Project :
ZENITH
Started :
september 1997
The main idea was
to launch the capsule twice :
as the alfa version
with the home-made rocket engine VOX and after recovery
it would become the beta-version with the French Chamois
propulsor.
To make it stable
for flying both engines, we made 2 fin-sets and
fin-tubes.
So in this
situation we didn't have to make any other changes in the capsule (mass, center
of gravity...)
The capsule was
ready in july 1998 and we went for the French launching campaign in Bourges
(central France)...
Unfortunately the
VOX engine was not allowed to make its french maidentrip and was "neutralized"
on the same campaign.
So only the Zenith
beta made a real flight. And it was very succesfull
:
very good reception
of flight-data, good ejection of parachute and very very soft landing
(7,5m/s).
However, no one
managed to recover the rocket, so it is now "asleep" in the woods of
Avord..
