The Vlaamse Raket Organisatie - VRO (Flemish Rocket Organisation) is the only officially registered (experimental) rocketry organisation in Flanders (Belgium).
Our main goal is the promotion of rocket related sciences like:
* the research and development of rocket motors and propellants
* the development of the necessary flight electronics and software
* the search for new materials and how to use them
* the design, constructing, testing and launching of rockets
* encourage the interests of rocket science
The VRO was actually born in 1967. In this period Antoon (Tony) Vyverman founded the club, then under the name BVRO (Belgische Vereniging voor Raket Onderzoek - Belgian Rocket Research Association). From 1973 till 1978 most of the attention went to propellant-research (Zinc/sulfur and KNO3/sugar)
Thanks to the book "The potassium nitrate-sugar propellant" the BVRO obtained international recognition.
In 1981 BVRO became an official non-profit organisation together with our colleagues from GEA.
International launches happened in France, The Netherlands, Danemark and some other European Countries.
Even today the VRO is supported by the same people who cleared the road for other enthousiastic people waiting to make their dreams come true…
